An Icy Adventure with The Star Wars Ice Sculpture Festival
After enjoying the “Frozen Summer Fun” Sand Sculpture Festival in Ostend last August, we couldn’t resist going to see the Star Wars Ice Sculpture Festival in Liege, Belgium. Similarly to the Sand Festival, the Ice Sculpture Festival is officially endorsed by the Walt Disney Company & Lucasfilm Ltd.
The exhibit features 61 sculptures with the heroes and villains of the Star Wars saga, including characters from the classic original trilogy, the prequel, and new ones from The Force Awakens. The combination of amazingly crafted sculptures creatively lighted and the original Star War music creates an unforgettable experience for the visitors. But you have to remember to dress up really warm to enjoy the exhibit to the fullest. The temperature in the display hall is -6 Celsius and you can really feel it in your fingers if you don’t wear gloves.
At the back of the exhibit, against the wall, there is a surprise awaiting guests of all ages: a large ice glide, an ice tunnel, and an ice bar serving liquor in small glasses of ice.
And when you are ready to warm up, right outside the exhibit there is a sizable café, which serves warm drinks and snacks. You can sit down with your family on comfortable couches surrounded by Christmas décor, and discuss the “icy experience” while enjoying a hot chocolate and Belgian waffle.
While these sorts of exhibits are sometimes a bit cheesy, the Force is strong with this one.
