The Living Museum of Gingerbread

The Living Museum of Gingerbread (Polish: Żywe Muzeum Piernika) is an interactive museum in which all visitors take on an active role. During a guided tour, visitors are taken to medieval Torun where they learn about the history of gingerbread and, under the watchful eyes of Gingerbread Master and charming Gingerbread Witch, make their own gingerbreads preparing dough and forming gingerbreads in traditional wooden molds.

On the second floor, guests can visit a manufacturing room from the 19th and the early 20th century with the original German machines (used to bake ginberbreads), a vintage baking oven and the collection of wax gingerbread molds. There, everyone has a chance to decorate their own gingerbread with icing and take part in gingerbread decorating workshop.

Shows in English are run daily at 1 PM and 4 PM.

Price and booking information can be found on the Museum’s website.

    Interesting family activity

    Reviewed 28 July 2017

We had a great experience visiting this museum. We attended bi-lingual show which was run both in Polish and English. The animators were entertaining and very engaging and everybody had a good time. My kids particularly liked the part when they could make their own gingerbreads but they also enjoyed the initial presentation by the Gingerbread Master and the Witch in which they had an active role. Great family activity! This is a personal opinion of a KiddieMundo user.

    Tips

It's a good idea to order tickets online before your visit. The shows have limited space so if you just show up at the museum without the tickets it might turn out you won't be able to enter it right away.
