Overview
Xochimilco
Xochimilco is a fun family destination. It is a system of ancient canals where you can rent a boat and cruise along the rivers on a brightly colored trajineras (a Mexican-type gondola), visit artificial islands called chinampas, and enjoy mariachi music.

Interesting experience
Reviewed 14 August 2017
It was definitely an interesting experience. The canals were packed with other gondolas and it was quite loud: a mix of latino music and mariachi bands. It's definitely not Venice (as some people compare it to) but it has its own charm. While you are sailing you can have a snack (you can either sail up to one of the restaurants or order food from the food vendors sailing by), buy some souvenirs or invite to a gondola your own mariachis. This is a personal opinion of a KiddieMundo user.
Tips
You can usually negotiate the price of trajinera. The established price is 350 pesos per hour/ per boat. Don't pay per person. At the end, it is customary to give the guy poling the boat a tip (about 150 - 200 pesos).
